Good morning everyone! As March winds down, I realized that we have just passed a major milestone. It was March 21, in the first year of covid 2020, when we had our first drive up full food pantry session. All we had at that time were shelf-stable products and people who were desperate. Do you remember how empty the shelves were in the grocery stores, and how many hourly wage earners lost their income overnight? We had already been running a food and clothing pantry...mostly clothing really...for around a year, and we were only providing occasional emergency food to some of our homeless dinner guests and a few other neighbors. We went from serving 4 to 5 people every two weeks to serving up to 85 each week. It was a crazy time, and although we sometimes ran out of specific items, we never ran out of most, and never, ever had to turn anyone away. We were quickly able to expand into fresh foods, acquired weekly since we didn't have adequate storage. Now we have a little

Top o' the morning to you all! I bet you can guess who had corned beef and cabbage last night. Yup, the 17th is the one day of the year that all of us with no Irish blood pretend that we do! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, whether or not you enjoy corned beef. I know that I often mention the homemade cookies and how much we appreciate the wonderful people who bake them, but unless you've been with us at the pantry, you just can't imagine what they mean to people. We talked with a lovely woman on Saturday who takes care of her two grandchildren during the weekdays. Both parents are working, and they are struggling. So are these two retired grandparents, who are trying to keep growing kids fed. She told us that she just couldn't get over that someone would bake for them. Seriously...in many people's minds, cookies equal love. Laurie S, our cookie organizer, has sent out a new call for bakers, anyone who would like to join the Cookie Brigade, as

Personal care bags delivered

Thanks to the grant we received from Greater Lowell Community Foundation, we were able to help support the newest migrant residents in our community. Last Wednesday, a fabulous crew of volunteers gathered to assemble personal care bags and to deliver them to the hotel in Ayer. We love our community! This is the second delivery, the first being mountains of diapers, which was delivered several weeks ago.   Many thanks to Mich, Jacque, Amanda, Alison, Paula, Tina, Lindsey, and Dan!

What a busy week! Melanie P and I hit the ground running last Monday when we headed up to Lowell to pick up from Merrimack Valley Food Bank. They recently moved to a new, FABULOUS location, with an enormous warehouse area, offices for everyone, a reception area, conference room, and a staff kitchen! We are so happy for them. I've included a picture to try to give you a sense of scale of the warehouse.   On Wednesday, our crew was joined by some special volunteers who came to help by packing up personal care bags for our new migrant neighbors in Ayer. This finished off the grant that we received from Greater Lowell Community Foundation for that purpose. There was *just a bit* of chaos on the floor, but I really believe everyone had a good time! Afterwards, a few folks stayed to deliver the bags, which was a whole project of its own. There's a picture of the volunteer crew included here, and you'll see longtime donors and lovely people from the Ayer office of N

Merrimack Valley Food Bank has a new home

Melanie P and I took a trip to see the new building that Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Inc. has! It's incredible, with a huuuuuge warehouse space, lots of offices, and a conference/meeting room. They've been wonderful supporters for us and so many other programs, and we're so happy for them! ❤

March 4, 2024 newsletter

Happy March everyone! I spent the last weekend of February in Wisconsin with my two lovely grandgirls, and the weather there was just as mild as it's been here. Highly unusual for both states, but also quite welcome. My thanks go out to my friends who kept it all running smoothly while I was gone: Tina, Dan, Kathleen, Melanie, and Tiny's, along with Nicole + Hunter, Pauline, Laurie and the Cookie Brigade, Alison + Rich, Becky + Rick. You guys are all the greatest! This past week, we had a wonderful visit by Meg and Kev from the Pepperell VFW Post 3291. Along with the Bombas Socks Giving Program, Charles W. Moore lodge Angel Program, and Operation Service, this local Post puts together hundreds of pairs of high quality socks that they donate to us and other organizations. I've included a picture of our local heroes making the delivery! Thank you to all of the people who came together to make this possible. Our next picture is of the cutie pies that gathered outside of A
