Mandarin Chinese languages classes offered

Starting in June, one of our amazing local residents will be offering lessons in Mandarin Chinese at Stone Soup Kitchen, Wednesdays from 10 to 11! She did this last year with a wonderful group of people, and now is ready to start up a new beginner's group.  This is an unbelievable opportunity, open to anyone in our community. The classes will be free , as are all of SSK's programs, but it will be strictly limited to 10 people. Homeschool kids are welcome, with their adult. Don't wait to message us if you'd like to take part. A reminder: nobody is “taking a spot from someone else”; you are participating in a fun community-building activity!  Please use the Message button on this post. I may not see it if you post a question in one of the facebook forums 💕

Come and add a stone to our soup bowls!

Sometimes while I'm traveling, I have time to think. Like when I'm stuck in an airport for a few extra hours (not that that EVER happens!) Wanna hear my latest idea? It started with an idea that a lot of charities use, a donor wall. Many of you know that we already have one, although it's hidden! You came and signed the back of one of our pieces of paneling when we were renovating the dining room. Since we are a relational, not transactional organization, we had EVERYONE sign it: guests, donors, volunteers, interested community members...anyone and everyone who wanted to, was welcome to sign. It seems so much less show off-y and more community-minded to make it open to all. I need to let you all know how much I appreciate you and your support, but I don't want to use food and program funds that YOU donated to buy you all some dumb little token that you don't even want, like pens or mugs or calendars. In fact, I googled “gifts from charities,” and it seems t

Food drives = Love!

How sweet is this? 💕💕💕 Michael's monetary donation was a part of a food drive held by the First Parish Church in Groton.  Our friend Donnie F mobilized her justice warrior youth to collect food for us, and we thank them greatly for their generosity and care!

Our local produce partners

We are so blessed to be partners with the Community Harvest Project (Mike) and the Boston Area Gleaners (Jess), as well as local gardeners at their homes and the Ayer Community Garden.  We also have some amazing volunteers and donors who pick up and deliver produce to us each week: Alison, Rich, Nicole, and Dawn. Today, Sonja and I went to visit the orchard of the Community Harvest Project in Harvard MA.  It's a beautiful property, just filled with fruit trees in dozens and dozens of varieties. They had some beautiful asparagus that they've been harvesting daily, and some of it will end up in our pantry bags this Saturday! Here is an article about the rise in food insecurity in our area. Between March and April of 2023, we saw a 660% rise in new guests at our pantry. No, that is not a misprint. https://www.wbjournal.com/article/nonprofits-battle-against-rising-food-insecurity-as-pandemic-era-assistance-comes-to-an-end
