Good morning and welcome to a day that explains why we love living in New England. No, the color isn't at peak yet, but the air is crisp and the sun is shining, and we live in a beautiful part of the country.
Did you go to the Newton Street Festival in Ayer on Saturday? I think that every vendor / organization spot was taken, and it was just the perfect day weather-wise. Mike and I went down to the fair after the pantry closed, where our wonderful friend Jane was passing out reusable bags with our logo and sheets of information on what we do. Thank you to Jane for dedicating days to gathering everything and for spending Saturday at the table! And thank you to St Andrew's Episcopal Church for allowing us to share the table...we appreciate you!
I hope you have Franks and Firefighters on your calendar for tomorrow, October 6 at Pirone Park in Ayer. We'll be there with Trolley Dogs from 5 to 6ish pm. The Fire Department will be there with trucks you can visit and SAFE information to share. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a free dog...it is not limited to Ayer residents. Just in case you don't already know, none of our events or services will cost you anything, nor are they ever limited to only certain towns. Come enjoy a beautiful night and meet up with your neighbors!
I have another very exciting thing to share with you. We recently worked with the Ayer Library to stock some satellite pantry shelves that will be open for folks to help themselves whenever the Library is open. The shelves are right inside the main entrance, and are stocked with some of the basics that will help put a meal on the table in an emergency. There's a picture included of Library Director Luke Kirkland next to the shelves. Patrons of the library can also get more information on our dinners and Saturday pantry. Thank you Luke and Library for hosting this experiment.

One small thing:
Six or seven years ago we started an experiment in hooking up tutors with people who needed help but didn't have the money to hire someone. There were wonderful volunteers who launched into tutoring adults who needed reading help, and it was very successful in most cases, at least for a season. A couple years later, a friend offered to tutor children struggling with math. One particular tutoring relationship has now lasted for FOUR YEARS! We are very grateful to our friend for continuing to donate her time and love in order to support this child's education!

If you want to shop for us this week, we could particularly use small boxes of plain instant potatoes, cans of tuna, pudding cups, and black tea, but we will gratefully take anything off our complete list. If you need the list, please let me know and I'll email it to you. We can take drop-offs at the pantry (through the gray door next to the parking lot on Cambridge Street) only on Wednesdays from 10 to noon, Fridays from 4 to 5, and Saturdays only from 9 to 10. Please do not leave food at the door outside of these hours. The bin is available to drop off SHELF-STABLE FOODS ONLY at Ayer Shop n' Save if those times don't suit. If you have FRESH PRODUCE, please contact us so we can make arrangements. Please don't leave it in the S n' S bin! Please also leave a note in the bag with your name so we know whom to thank when you do drop off food at the store! We are located at 21 Washington Street, Suite C, Ayer MA 01432
