April 6, 2026 newsletter

Happy Easter and Chag Pesach Sameach to all who celebrate, and to everyone, enjoy the reduced price chocolate this week!  We had a fairly small pantry service on Saturday, because I believe that many people assumed we'd be closed.  Hopefully they were able to get all they needed the week before.  Have you seen the prices in the grocery store lately?

There are some things to catch you up on this week, which are all good news, and are only the beginning of the results from our January Partners' Meeting.  Our first quarterly contribution to the Ayer Library has been made, to help them supplement the food they keep on hand for unaccompanied teens who come after school.  We feel this is an extremely important step for us, a way that we can extend our partnership with the Library and serve more of the population that wouldn't be necessarily coming to us.  The Library is a safe space for teens after school, and we feel very good about supporting them.  Are there other libraries in our region who do this and may need help?  Let us know!

Last week I showed you the bookplate that we are having made at J&S Business Products.  Our friend Lin M designed the layout, using our logo.  So, what is it for?  I can't believe that we never thought of this before, but we have purchased copies of the book Stone Soup from Little Bee Bookshop, and we will be giving one to each of the Spring graduates from the Ayer Community School, that shares the space at Shepherd of the Valley Church with us.  This is another project that we may want to expand in the future with other preschools.  For those who might be wondering if we are using "food money" on projects like this, the short answer is no.  We use specific grant money for community outreach projects.

The ultimate goal is to spend more time on serving more of the community in support of our double mission (food and relationships), often through partnerships, than we spend on fundraising.  That is every nonprofit's dream, I believe.

One Small Thing

Girl Scout cookies are small things, but they make people extremely happy!  We were blessed to receive cookie donations from two different troops this year, one Cadette and one Daisies.  Everyone was very grateful  💕

If you can shop for us this week, we will gratefully take anything off of our complete pantry list, and we are particularly in need of small jars of jelly.  Please email me if you need our full list or you want our QR code for online donations.  We can take drop-offs at the pantry (through the gray door next to the parking lot on Cambridge Street) on Wednesdays from 10 to noon, Fridays from 4 to 5, and Saturdays only from 9 to 10.  Please do not leave food at the door outside of these hours.  The bin is always available at Ayer Shop n' Save if those times don't suit: Please leave a note in the bag with your name so we know whom to thank!  We are located at 21 Washington Street, Suite C, Ayer MA 01432

Enjoy this first full week of April...I love you all!
