Ayer Fire and Police

Good morning all! I got a late start this morning because the weekend was totally exhausting, but in a good way :-) I believe we saw all of our regular guests and were able to load them up for Thanksgiving with the dinner bags and gift cards on top of our normal load of groceries. Thanks to all of you, our friends will all have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year, so (not to belabor the word, but...) thank you!

  • Thanksgiving bags – made possible by generous donors and assembled by Lin + Vinny M
  • Gift cards for turkeys (or ham, or whatever) – made possible by the generosity of the Ayer Police Union

To help offset the distribution of all these groceries this month, there was a one day “Stuff a Cruiser” event over at Ayer Shop 'n Save on Sunday, arranged by Mark L in Dispatch, and manned by both Ayer Police and Ayer Fire. It was successful beyond all expectations. Two huge pickup truck-loads plus the trunks of a car or two. Going into the day, I thought maybe we were going to have more volunteers on hand than needed to bring in all the food and sort it, but it turned out to be the perfect number: From start to finish, everything was loaded in, sorted, boxed, and cleaned up in just over a half hour! There are some attached pictures for you to enjoy. Our thanks go out, especially to the brave souls who stood outside in the frigid weather Sunday morning. We appreciate you all!

One Small Thing
A few weeks ago, our friend P brought in some leftover Boston Red Sox merch, including shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. It was an unexpected treat that many of our guests were thrilled to receive. Normally we don't deal in clothing other than gloves, socks, and hats, but this was a special occasion!

If you want to help out this week, we still have room for people to join us on Friday for our full Thanksgiving Dinner. Dinner will be at our regular time, with doors opening at 4pm and dinner served at 5pm. It is a potluck, so food CAN NOT be dropped off. Anyone who wants to cook something for our dinner must also stay and eat with us. If you would like to help, please contact us (there are lots of things still up for grabs at this point), and also let me know how many people you'll be bringing with you. All food must be cooked at home: we can not cook at the church, only reheat.

In this season of thankfulness, we are so very grateful for all of you! You keep us motivated to keep on working on behalf of all our neighbors. Thank you 💕
