October 6, 2025 newsletter

What an amazing “bonus” weekend we just had!  I hope all of you had time to get out and enjoy it.  I was really blessed this weekend by my friend Dan, who offered to work at the pantry in my place on Saturday so that I could go out to breakfast with my husband and some other friends (including Dan's wife Beth, lol) to celebrate Mike's retirement!  Normally Dan would have been out to breakfast with us, but he unselfishly gave that up to allow us to have the free time together.  I am very grateful.

We just have a couple of things to catch up on this week.  First, thank you to all of the people who have gone out of their way to drop off donations at Ayer Shop 'n Save, as well as thank our terrific volunteers, Becky and Rick, who pick it up each week.  Construction is continuing on our fire-damaged entrance, so it probably is still best to drop off there rather than end up with nails in your tires!  At least for one or two more weeks.

Second, we've been told by quite a few people that our "One Small Thing" feature has inspired others to get involved and do likewise!  Sometimes these are people who just felt like they needed permission, a small nudge, or an idea of what to do in order to get out and serve others.  It makes us really happy to hear about it, and more importantly, it makes the world a better place!

Lastly, there will be a flu clinic at the Ayer Library tomorrow, Tuesday the 7th, from 3 to 5.  The flyer is attached here if you are interested.  Our friends the nurses from the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health will be there.

One Small Thing
Our friend Laurie S sent us this lovely reminder that it can be very easy to help out sometimes:

“I often notice a woman who walks in my neighborhood and she was at the bottom of the hill last week and struggling. I was driving by and asked if I could bring her back to her home and she was very happy for the ride and I was happy to share a few minutes with her!”

(Just for the record, Laurie does a LOT of other things to make the community a better place too!)

If you are planning to shop for us this week, I'd be happy to send you our complete pantry list if you need it.  As I said, it's safest for you to drop off at the grocery store in Ayer, but please leave us a note in your bag so that we know whom to thank!  We are still looking for a few more people to help out with Saturday pantry distribution and the Friday night potluck, especially with cooking.  And we're always happy to add new people to our cookie bakers or coffee bar roster!  Please leave us a private comment here with your email address

Thank you all, have a wonderful week, and I love you!
