Rain, beautiful rain! I guess the wind is stronger in some areas, but we seem to be just in the outermost bands of our first nor'easter of the season. I don't know about you, but I rushed outside to get all my perennial seeds planted in time to benefit from this. Hopefully in the spring, there will be some results!
We had a fantastic weekend, and I hope you all did too. We met a new family and were able to help them with food and diapers for their beautiful 7 month old daughter. I don't know if you are all aware of this, but we have diapers from newborn size through size 4 (sometimes a few bigger ones), so if anyone in your sphere has babies, please let them know about it. We are also on the lookout for people who have been furloughed and need help. I contacted the reserve unit on Fort Devens to let them know about available aid and that we are open every Saturday. We are definitely worried about all of our friends who are being impacted by the shutdown. If you have neighbors who are in this position, please tell them about us.
One Small Thing
Our friend Justin didn't send this in...I'm sharing it for him :-)
Justin brings amazing pastries from Bake'N Joy for us to share with all of our friends. He stopped by on Friday before dinner with a big smile, a load of pastries, and a bag of fantastic gloves that we can pass out to our friends. We appreciate him and the fabulous company he works for so much!
There are going to be some Community Health focus group discussions in our area starting next week. There's an image of the flyer above (click to make it larger). This is part of an important assessment that is going on right now to see how we can improve all aspects of health in our region. It is being coordinated by the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health, and it will cover way more than just our need for a hospital. You can sign up for one of the focus groups in any of the towns, not just your own...whichever is most convenient for you. You'll notice that there isn't one in Ayer, Shirley, or Devens, but there are groups meeting in Groton, Harvard, and Pepperell, and you can go to any of them.
If you are planning to shop for us this week, I'd be happy to send you our complete pantry list if you need it. This week we are specifically in need of 6-pack snack crackers (peanut butter or cheese) for our weekend snack bags. It's still safest for you to drop off at the grocery store in Ayer, because of our ongoing construction (and nails in the parking lot), but please leave us a note in your bag so that we know whom to thank! We are still looking for some more people to help out with the Friday night potluck, especially with cooking. And we're always happy to add new people to our cookie bakers or coffee bar roster! Please just contact us at stonesoupkitchenministries@gmail.com
I love you all...take good care of yourselves and of each other!
