Good morning everyone! I have so many things to tell you about this week...I'm hoping that I can do them all justice and not forget any of them!
Also on Saturday, we made a new friend who came to help at the pantry. Curt L is deeply involved with North Central Habitat for Humanity. You may be aware that a Habitat duplex is being built on Newton St in Ayer. If you'd like to get involved with our local chapter, you can find all the info you need at https://ncmhabitat.org/
Next Saturday, August 9th from 10 to 1 in the Shop 'n Save parking lot, the Ayer and Shirley Police Stations will be teaming up with the Ayer Rotary Club to do "Fill a Cruiser" food drives. Rotary is another wonderful service organization that you might want to think about getting involved with. This chapter covers Ayer, Shirley, Harvard, and Devens. Groton + Pepperell have another chapter. https://www.ayerrotary.com/ https://rotarygp.org/
On top of the Fill a Cruiser event, our Ayer Police Station is also holding their 5th annual food drive for us during the entire month of August. The Station lobby is open 24/7 for drop offs. Many thanks to our friend Sgt John MacDonald for organizing this each year during our low-donation month! https://www.facebook.com/AyerPD for more information, and there is a picture attached here for you.
One Small Thing
This week's One Small Thing was sent to us by our friend Becky J. She is an “uber” for injured, sick, or orphaned wildlife, and works to support vets, animal control officers, and licensed wildlife rehabbers: “Attached is a photo of one of my first transports, a baby raccoon I drove out to Berkshire Wildlife in Washington MA for the Shirley ACO. She carried him on her chest in this tshirt pouch for 2 days to stabilize him first, as he required feedings every 2-3 hours around the clock, and needed to be kept warm. I did the long drive again 3 days later after his siblings were found, so that they could be reunited and raised together. The second picture is 2 baby possums, found with their dead mother 2 weeks ago. The larger one kept putting its arm over the little runt, like it was protecting and comforting it.”
Both of these pictures are above, because I don't think you would ever forgive me if I didn't show you baby animals!
If you can shop for us this week, we are low on a couple of items: boxes of instant potatoes, peanut butter, decaf coffee, and adult diapers in small, medium, or large. We have lots of extra-large already. We can take drop-offs at the pantry (through the gray door next to the parking lot on Cambridge Street) on Wednesdays from 10 to noon, Fridays from 4 to 5, and Saturdays only from 9 to 10. Please note that these are shorter hours than before, because of parking logistics. Please do not leave food at the door outside of these hours. The bin is always available at Shop n' Save if those times don't suit, and of course during August, you can also drop off at the Police Station. Please leave a note in the bag with your name so we know whom to thank! We are located at 21 Washington Street, Suite C, Ayer MA 01432
I love you all! Have a wonderful week
