July 1, 2024 newsletter

Good morning and happy July everyone! Rabbit Rabbit! (if you have no idea what that means, email me)

My husband and I had a wonderful vacation and reunion with his family last week, and I'm not at all shocked to hear that everything ran smoothly while I was gone. I'm so grateful that we had a full stable of volunteers who can take care of any issues that crop up and make sure that the food keeps rolling out the doors. We were extremely busy during Saturday pantry, but the Wednesday gang had made sure we'd be well-stocked and ready. Just in case you were wondering, we WILL be open on Wednesday for donations, and on Friday and Saturday as usual. It's a holiday weekend for many, but people still need to eat  💕

We have a new Donations Coordinator! Lin M, who is very involved with lots of different aspects of Stone Soup Kitchen, will be taking on this role, and I couldn't be happier! She will be approaching new potential partners at different businesses, clubs, etc, to see if we can come up with creative ways to expand our community. We want to be very careful not to burden people and places that are already involved in donation programs with other organizations, and I know that Lin is exactly the person for this task. You may already know her as the person who provides hot chocolate and glitter tattoos at Shop 'n Save during a food drive, whose son Vinny mans a lemonade stand each summer to raise money for us, and who hits up social media to fund the Thanksgiving bags that we give out each year. Lin does all of these herself; with her level of creativity, I'm excited to see who she can recruit to multiply these efforts. There's a very exciting thing that she's working on right now, but ...shhhh... everyone has to wait to hear!

There is another open volunteer spot at Stone Soup Kitchen if any of you would like to get more involved. One of our regular volunteers is on an emergency family trip, which is likely to be a bit lengthy. We will need someone to fill in for him, and possibly to become a regular in the rotation of Saturday mornings at the pantry. It would be my preference that it be someone who WOULD potentially like to make it a long-term position, but that would be up to you, of course, if you enjoy the work and understand what it is we are working to do. We operate under the tag-lines of the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Fitness: love all, serve all, and judgment-free zone! It is very physical (quite a bit of heavy-ish lifting) and can be fast-paced, from 8:30 to noon. Email me if you are interested 😊

If you are able to shop for us this week, we would very much appreciate some of the products that are in high demand this summer: baked beans, cereal (low-sugar preferred), shaped pasta (penne, elbows, anything but lasagna), spaghetti sauce, small boxes of plain instant potatoes, jelly, soups (especially low sodium, but no seafood please), and toilet paper! And as always, anything from our complete list that you find on sale is gratefully welcome! We'll be at the pantry on Wednesday from 10 to noon, Friday from 4 to 5:30, and Saturday from 9 to noon for drop-offs. And the bin is always available at Shop n' Save if those times don't suit. Please leave a note in the bag with your name so we know whom to thank.

I hope you will all enjoy a little break on July 4th. Enjoy time with family and friends if you are able, and join us on Friday night for a cookout dinner (weather permitting) at Stone Soup Kitchen if you'd like! Love you all,
