Good morning, good morning! What a glorious weekend it was...great weather, great gathering for dinner, great morning at the pantry, a great gathering for crafts with Debbie E, and a fun Superbowl. Or as our daughter calls it, “that sportsy-ball thing you like to watch.” Since I had absolutely no skin in the game this time, I concentrated on the snacks and advertisements, while rooting for the 49ers, simply because I like Joe Montana.

We have lots of good stuff to report this week:
  • Sarah P's Girl Scouts made Valentine's Day bags for our guests (picture above), which thrilled everyone who received them.
  • We received a large delivery of homemade cookies and brownies from our amazing bakers to give out. Everyone appreciates the time and the love you put into these!
  • Bake'N Joy brought us 2 cases of pound cakes to share. We really appreciate their partnership.
  • Several different crafts were enjoyed on Saturday morning (picture below). Debbie comes up with great projects, but socializing is key!

We really appreciate all the people who make these things possible. These extra touches help us to develop those relationships that are so important to the way we run SSK. We never want people to feel that they are just a name and number when they visit us, and all of you who come up with these great ideas and who put them into action, you are the ones who help create that bond.

I also want to tell you the story of the boots. We're not collecting clothing or shoes anymore (except for socks, hats, gloves, and scarves), but one of our sweet supporters asked if we knew someone who could use a virtually new pair of size 6 boots. We didn't, but I told her I could drop them at the thrift shop if she wanted. Well, I forgot. And the very next week, Tina just randomly offered the boots to the first guest who came, who “just happened” to have a daughter who had just outgrown her size 5 boots.

We have an awful lot of “just happened” events at Stone Soup Kitchen!

If you can shop for us this week, we have the same list as last week, minus the toilet paper. We are especially in need of the following items: 1 or 2 lb bags of rice (white or brown), small Jiffy-style corn muffin mix or baking mix (approx 8 oz), small boxes of instant potatoes (unflavored), spaghetti sauce, spaghetti pasta, and the 18 oz sized containers of unflavored oatmeal (whole rolled or quick cook). We'll be at the pantry on Wednesday from 10 to noon, Friday from 4 to 5:30, and Saturday from 9 to noon for drop-offs. And the bin is always available at Shop n' Save if those times don't suit. Please leave a note in the bag with your name so we know whom to thank!

Be safe this week with the nor'easter! I love you all
