December 18, 2023 newsletter

Good morning everyone! We had an amazing week that I'd like to share with you. Very very busy, but it's also so satisfying to be able to get various families hooked up with the resources they need and to be able to give them the encouragement to take just the next step. And then just the next next step. And on and on, until hopefully they are in a better place. We live in an amazing community, and I want to remind all of you of that. Sometimes I get discouraged when I look at the posts and comments made in the online community groups, but I need to remind myself to just look harder. There are plenty of wonderful people out there, and I daresay they are in the majority. They just won't usually be the loudest voice in any room!

Here are some specifics from last couple of weeks:
The Cannon Theater – food drive and monetary donation
Jess R + the Boston Area Gleaners + Rich + Alison E – farm fresh produce
National Grid + Jacque + Olivia – repairs, packing, and cleaning
The Cookie Brigade + Laurie S – homemade cookies
The Groton School + Lizzie P – cookies and cards
Ayer Shop 'n Save + the Joneses – donation collection bin
The Craft Gathering + Debbie E – cards
Bake'N Joy + Justin M – baked goods
Jennifer Hofmann – handmade soaps
Reading and math literacy – Elaine S + Carol S
Cyndi D – seasonal tabletop décor for our dining room
New Life Community Church of Groton + the Spellenbergs – socks
Fiber Loft in Harvard + Alison E – handmade hats and scarves

These are in addition to our usual team who shop, sort, stock, pack, and serve. There are so very many people to thank, and I appreciate you all! The picture this week is from the Ayer Library, where my friends are collecting mittens for us (I see socks on there too!). It's a lovely sight

If you can shop for us this week, our stock of many items is low. We are especially in need of the following items: spaghetti pasta (whole wheat if available), spaghetti sauce (low sugar if available), 18 oz containers of oatmeal, small jars of peanut butter and of jelly, canned chicken, canned tuna, canned corn, canned pasta like spaghettios, low-sugar baked beans, 1 or 2 lb bags of rice, cans of ground coffee, and apple juice. We'll be at the pantry on Wednesday from 10 to noon, Friday from 4 to 5:30, and Saturday from 9 to noon for drop-offs. And the bin is always available at Shop n' Save if those times don't suit. Please leave a note in the bag with your name so we know whom to thank!

Much love to all of you! Be well and enjoy the season...it's over before you know it.
