  Stone Soup Kitchen opens at 4 pm on Friday evenings, located at Shepherd of the Valley Church on Washington Street in Ayer (the sign says Federated Church). Please park in the Newton Street lot and walk up to the first blue door on Washington Street. Dinner is open to ANYone who wants a good hot meal and some company...no need to bring anything but yourself unless you want to! From 4 to 5, we are open for those who want to get together and socialize in the dining room. The potluck dinner is available from 5 to 5:30 followed by dessert and our open support group, which runs from 5:30 to 6, if you'd like to stay for it after dinner. This week, the potluck will feature sweet and sour pork, sides, dessert, juice, and some extra snacks to take home for the weekend. Our food pantry is open every Saturday morning from 10 to noon, same location. Come to the parking lot on Cambridge Street and follow the arrows.                       The beautiful windows in our new dining room! WE HAVE A NEW HOME!! We got all moved into our new home at Shepherd of the Valley Church last week and were even able to hold our first Friday night dinner there on January 24th. It went very very well! Then the pantry crew got together the next morning to walk and talk through how all that is going to operate. Combining the talents and thoughts of many people really helped in this case, and I think we have most of the procedure ironed out. But, that said, I'm sure we will be changing our work flow from time to time as we go along, as unforeseen things arise. That always happens, and it's nothing that we worry about!   Dear Friends of Stone Soup Kitchen, The big news this year is the elephant in the room: we have to move by the end of January. Living Water Fellowship, the church in Devenscrest, Ayer MA, has been our home since June 2019, and we are very sad to see it close. But we are delighted to have a brand new home to look forward to in the years to come, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church on Washington Street in Ayer. For now though, let's look back at 2024! * * * * * Thank you to all of you for your faithfulness this past year in supporting our community! We had a very good year, full of new initiatives designed to bring people together for food and fellowship. Our mission is two-fold: to help alleviate food insecurity and hunger, and to bring lonely or marginalized people together with other community members, helping them to form more relationships across the typical divides that keep people from socializing. Good morning friends! Did you catch that subject line? We are moving in 15 days to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church at 21 Washington Street in Ayer (formerly the Federated Church, which is still on the sign), and we need some help with packing and unpacking. Monday, January 20th is the day that the movers come, and there is so much to do before then, and then again afterwards. That date was picked because SOV also houses the Ayer Community School, and we wanted to make sure that we weren't any more disruptive to them than absolutely necessary. January 20 is MLK Day, a federal holiday, so the school will be closed. Can you imagine trying to corral a group of preschoolers when there is a moving van outside their window? 😄 The short length of time that we were given to vacate Living Water Fellowship (which is being closed down against the will of the parishioners) is making this an extremely hectic time, and we need your help .
